Books in 2013

I'll have two more books coming out in 2013. Well, at least one--Time Branches. It's complete and being read by a focus group. I'm not hearing any big complaints so it should be available before June 2013. The book is about a woman in a coma who finds that she's able to move around in time and space. While her mother is weeping at her bedside, expecting her to pass away at any moment, the woman travels back in time to try to correct some family dysfunction.

The second book is currently titled 2948. It's about a teenaged girl living in a somewhat utopian culture 900 years from now. She is wanting to push the boundaries of art in a culture where art has become a little bit rigid. The theme of the book is about artistic standards, how they get created and maintained, and what it takes to change them.

I would like to have a discussion with my readers about these issues. I'm finding that I have a need to consult about some of my subjects. Without some interaction I'm afraid I'm just like a tree falling in a forest, making unrequited sounds.

Try to imagine a world 900 years from now, one that is functioning well and very stable. This is not the dystopian nightmare of many recent movies and books. The world is working very well, along the lines of agrarian native American societies overlaid with advanced communications, technology and health care. The industrial economy has gone away. The financial industry has been replaced by small local banks using a single currency with a fixed value.

The question is "When does stability become too stable?"

Let me hear from you. I'll share the writing with interested readers as it progresses.

Thanks for reading,

Ron
